Commercial Real Estate Aerial Photography

The definitive resource on commercial real estate aerial photography — what drone stills show that ground photos can't, how they differ from aerial maps, and how to use them. BTS Brands produces aerial photography across every asset class.

What is commercial real estate aerial photography?

Commercial real estate aerial photography is drone-captured stills of a property and its surroundings — overhead and oblique shots that show site, scale, access, and context in ways a ground-level camera cannot. For location-driven assets, an aerial answers the questions that decide value: what surrounds the site, how it connects, and how big it really is.

It is the photographic companion to the aerial map — where the map adds labels and rings to a base image, aerial photography is the high-quality imagery itself, used as a hero shot or as the base for those exhibits.

Aerial photography vs. aerial maps

An aerial map is a labeled exhibit — radius rings, drive times, POIs — built on an aerial image. Commercial real estate aerial photography is the imagery itself: clean, high-resolution drone stills used as marketing photos or as the foundation for a map. Many deals use both, from the same flight.

Inside aerial photography: shot types

A useful aerial set covers the asset from several heights and angles.

The common aerial photography shot types for commercial real estate.

Overhead & oblique

Top-down for site and parcel, oblique for presence and context.

Context & access

The surroundings, frontage, and access that establish location.

Labeled & timed

Optional callouts, and time-of-day choices that show the asset at its best.

Aerial photography by asset class

Retail and land lean hardest on aerials — surroundings and frontage drive value; industrial on site and access; multifamily on amenities and setting. BTS Brands produces aerial photography across every commercial asset class, feeding the OM, flyer, and maps.

Common aerial photography mistakes

  • One angle where the story needs several
  • No sense of context or surroundings
  • Poor light or flat conditions
  • Low resolution that limits use
  • No tie to the map exhibits built from it

Frequently asked questions

What is aerial photography used for in CRE?

Showing a property's footprint, access, and surroundings from above, which ground-level photos simply cannot capture.

Do you handle the drone flight?

We coordinate licensed aerial capture and take it through editing, labeling, and enhancement for marketing use.

Can you label the aerials?

Yes. We add boundaries, callouts, and context so an aerial does real work in a flyer or offering memorandum.
